my first business exercise !!!!

Life at sims had been only 3 days old when on the 4th day we got our first BUSINESS EXCERCISE!!!!

We all were given a task of going to M.G.Road without spending a single paisa and earning 100 rupees in a 5 hour span....after being flagged off from the institute. A buddy system which is quite familiar to our fathers but not us was the key ingredient in the excercise. Me and my buddy aditya was chosen and soon left to explore the grounds which were absolutely NEW......

I managed to get us a free ride in an auto rickshaw- OUR FIRST STEP...!!!
after which we stopped an AC car and went till Shivaji Nagar....from there a nice cop gave us a lift in his Toyota Qualis....with sirens ringing!!!
Then the ultimate luxury awaited us....a Toyota Corolla which dropped us till zila parishad chowk.
Then it was a 10 minute walk till M.G.Road.We reached there at 10.25 am..Now the hunt began to get both of us employed for 5 hours and earn 100 bucks!
Now neglecting a sure way to emloyment and driven by greed to bbe frank we headed towards the mall at M.G.Road where there were brands like Marks & Spencers,Nike,McDonalds and Levi's.
We entered these places with lot of confidence but didn't get a job beacause they were run by corporate houses and not any single person...we were told there is a lot of documentation that goes in hiring a person at these places...so we came out a bit disappointed out of The Body Shop,Pizza Hut,Pyramid store,Provoge and the list goes on and on....
By the time we exited the mall it was 11am!
Trying to catch up with the deadline of getting places we went from shop to shop....now many of the M.G.Road shops close between 1-4pm and there were hardly any customers there.

we tried our luck in opticals, various restraunts and many shops ranging from shoe shops to garments to jewellery to even an astrologer!!!
The time on my watch showed 12.35pm and hope was the only thing that kept us going...we were moving about at Amba complex opposite Wonderland when our eyes fell on a cyber cafe...we though might as well look for some typing job at the cafe and make a few rupees rather than going empty handed....
The owner of the cyber cafe looked at our sorry state and by a stroke of luck took us to his Placement consultancy which was next to his cyber cafe!!!
Mr Abdul Bari was a gentleman of all sorts....he asked us our interests. We told him H.R interests us both...So we were taken in to his small office were just 5 people worked.
Aditya was given the job of calling candidates and asking them what kind of jobs would they like.

i was given the job of sitting in the interview panel with Miss Tina who was a consultant as well as an HR to interview candidates coming in for a job...i interviewed 12 people with age groups ranging from 18 to 36 years with Miss Tina and Mr. Bari!

My job was to take interviews of the various candidates who had come to the consultancy , give a feedback about them to the company and making them understand their weak areas and work on them.

The candidates after the consultancy were directly taken to the HR of WNS who had come to the consultancy to recruit people for a voice based processed system.

It gave me a sense of immense pleasure that i was able to get such a nice exposure and also worry on the fact that many postgraduates end up sticking to a BPO just because of unsuitable jobs.
So much of trust and responsibility given to us two strangers by Mr Bari was nothing less than shocking!
Aditya took around 30 calls and Mr Bari was impressed with the hint of a UK accent in his voice...
Before we began we told Mr Bari that we want some kind of value added to our work but also told him that we would accept whatever he would give us at 4pm...
So we worked happily with a feeling of content till my watch showed 4.
Then Mr Bari Called us to his cabin to ask what all we had done...Aditya gave him the call manifest and i gave him the feedback of the candidates i had recommended for the inhouse recruitment drive for WNS.

Mr. Bari gave me various tips that how he selects people and what various BPO's look exactly in candidates. With his past 10 yrs experience he gave me many more tips.
At the time of leaving Mr Bari said something that touched our hearts....he said he felt as if we were a part of his family and that he learned a lot from us....He said that he also sweated it out in the sun selling toothbrushes door to door before the started his placement Consultancy ( Unique Careers).
He then gave us 100 rupees each!
I could not thank the man enough for giving me and my buddy a chance to prove our worth....we also had tea he offered us and clicked a few snaps from his camera phone.

Also i'm proud to mention here that Mr. Bari was the the 1st person to start internet cafe in pune at rs. 200/hr and now he has reduced the rates to rs.5/hr.
Then like proud warriors after a battle we hitchhiked our way towards koregaon park where we met Mr Kamath and our entire batch.
